VNT awards safest contractors in 2016

February 3, 2017 / News

Labour protection has been and will always remain one of the top priorities of SIA ““Ventspils nafta” termināls” (VNT). In addition to taking care of the well-being and safety of VNT employees, the terminal pays special attention to the safety culture of its contractors (suppliers) by maintaining the contractor safety programme and performing annual assessments of the contractors. On 3 February, for the second year in a row, VNT has awarded the safest VNT contractors in three categories.

AS “SZMA V”, that has been successfully performing repairs of VNT operational equipment for many years, claimed victory in the category “Safest Contractor in Project Implementation”. The other category nominees were SIA “Ostas celtnieks” and SIA “Latteps”.

The award in the nomination “Safest Contractor in Maintenance Services” was received by SIA “Impel Serviks”, which performs house-keeping works in VNT premises and the territory. Other nominees in this category were SIA “Inspecta Latvija”, SIA “CVS” and SIA “Multicomp”.

SIA “E būvvadība” overtook SIA “Info Serviss” and proved itself as the “Safest Start in 2016”. This company performed extensive and complicated demolition works in 2016.

During the assessment of the contractors, various criteria were taken into consideration: from the quality of communication, cooperation and paper flow to the number of registered violations, the ability to react to observations, and the progress in the labour protection area within the year.

Employees of the winning companies received prizes and one additional “Life mark”.

About VNT’s contractor safety programme

To encourage compliance with labour safety rules on a daily basis, VNT has implemented a special safety programme for contractors. Within the framework of this programme, everyone who wants to enter the territory of VNT and work there has to watch video instructions and pass a safety test. If succeeded, the contractor receives three stickers or “Life marks” to put on their helmet. If a gross violation is committed whilst working, VNT employees have the right to remove one sticker. After losing the third “Life” the contractor’s employee is banished from the  territory of VNT until the end of the year.

VNT contractor safety improvement programme was recognised on a state level and awarded “Responsible business initiative of the year” on the CSR idea market.
